Resize an image on Mac
Make a picture smaller for email or the web, or set exact pixel dimensions, without leaving the app you opened it in.
Free
How to, in three steps
- Open the image.
- Press ⌘K and type "Resize". Enter a width and height in pixels, or a percentage. Keep the proportions locked unless you want to stretch it.
- Export. Choose JPEG, PNG, HEIC or TIFF and a quality, then save as a new file.
Free. Resizing, cropping, rotating and basic color adjustments are free. Resizing a whole folder at once is a Pro batch tool.
Works offline. Your files never leave your Mac.
The image is resized on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded. PeekPlain sends no files and no usage data anywhere; see the privacy page.
PeekPlain is in free beta and some features are still arriving. The changelog lists what has shipped.
Questions
Does resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it larger cannot add detail that is not there.
Can I resize many images at once?
Batch resizing is a Pro feature. Free handles one image at a time.
Will it overwrite my original?
Export saves a new file. Saving over the original goes through a verified save with a backup.
Can I set DPI?
Yes. Adjust Size works in pixels, percent, inches or centimeters, with a resolution in pixels per inch. Turn resampling off to change only the stored DPI without touching the pixels.
