Features / CSV viewer

View CSV files on Mac

Open a CSV as a readable table instead of a wall of commas, without starting a spreadsheet app.

Free

Download PeekPlain freemacOS 15 or later. Free beta.

How to, in three steps

  1. Open the .csv file, or select it in Finder and press Space.
  2. Read it as a table. Columns line up, and JSON and YAML open as collapsible trees in the same app.
  3. Search or copy what you need. It is a viewer, so your file is never changed.

Free. Viewing CSV is free.

Works offline. Your files never leave your Mac.

The file is read on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and the Quick Look extension has no network access. PeekPlain sends no files and no usage data anywhere; see the privacy page.

PeekPlain is in free beta and some features are still arriving. The changelog lists what has shipped.

Questions

Can I edit the CSV?

No, PeekPlain shows CSV; it does not edit it. Use a spreadsheet or text editor to change it.

Does it handle big files?

It is designed to stay fast on large files. Very large files are limited by your Mac's memory.

Does Space bar preview work?

Yes. Finder previews CSV, JSON, Markdown and code through the Quick Look extension.

Which delimiters work?

Commas and common alternatives such as tabs and semicolons.
